About me

Originally from Magdalen Islands, Canada, I have been travelling in North America and Europe for roughly 8 years now. I like to think of myself as a contemporary nomad. I am currently based in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada where I work as a French Language Assistant in a local school. I shall stay there until the end of May 2011, with limited Internet bandwidth, sadly.

I'm a hitchihiker and solo traveler. I also tend to be a bit anarchist and libertarian. I like to dumpster dive, but I'd rather not be able to. I strive for autonomy and interdependecy. I find it hard to bend my ideals, so I avoid it as much as I can. I believe in responsibility and Humanity.

I'm fascinated by the beauty of complexity.

Current Projects

Le petit guide du grand vagabond

Alternative travel handbook co-written with two Frenchmen. We focus on giving a beginner's introduction to travelling techniques that allow to get hosted, transported and to feed oneself. We selected them for their qualities as ecological, affordable and/or human-oriented techniques.

We're almost finished writing ! We're now looking for a publisher, reviewing our material and finalizing some chapters. To give you an idea, we cover all hitchhiking techniques (cars, boats, planes), dumpster diving, foraging, urban and wild camping, freight-hopping and added a few extras like safety, women travel and intercultural communication...

Travelling Alone as a Woman

Travelling alone sometimes sounds difficult or inaccessible for women. But is it all that different from any other type of travelling? Anick-Marie explores the reality of solo travel in female shoes, arguing that it is more accessible than people think and promoting an approach based on mental preparation and self-empowerment.

About this website

I'm learning and that process is organic. This website is therefore organic too.

About ProjectVolunteering

I joined this project as a part of my studies. I firstly worked with the Permanent Hospitality Berlin group, started the  CS Murrayburn Flat (on hold), also participating in the ProjectVolunteering initiative.

ProjectVolunteering is a framework for social profit projects. The main focus is on people and the method is action research . That means that we try to live and let others know about what and how we do it.
The values that unite us have to do with abstract principles of being together and with specific actions. For example we treat mistakes/failure/errors as a part of the normal development. As a group we try to escape the vicious circle of errors by documenting what we do. That is not to say that documenting is enough but it is necessary for us and others to grow.
